A hierarchical control protocol for group-oriented playbacks supported by content distribution networks

چکیده
Content distribution networks have recently been introduced as a more efficient alternative to centralized servers for the delivery of static content as well as media streaming services ranging from TV broadcasts to video on-demand. Content Distribution Networks can also efficiently provide collaborative playback service, which allows a synchronous group of users to select, simultaneously watch altogether and share the control of a multimedia session. This paper presents the definition and analysis of the Hierarchical Cooperative Control Protocol (HCOCOP), which allows a synchronous group of users to share the control of the media streaming session provided by a Content Distribution Network. The analysis phase, which was supported by discreteevent simulation, was carried out to characterize the efficiency of the protocol on the basis of the following defined performance indices: blocking probability, denial probability, server load and network load. The performances obtained for architectures based on Content Distribution Networks are compared with those obtained for centralized architectures providing collaborative playbacks. The comparison shows that HCOCOP significantly improves performance of media streaming control. & 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. ARTICLE IN PRESS

An Efficient Hierarchical Modulation based Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Transmission Scheme for Digital Video Broadcasting
Due to the increase of users the efficient usage of spectrum plays an important role in digital terrestrial television networks. In digital video broadcasting, local and global content are transmitted by single frequency network and multifrequency network respectively. Multifrequency network support transmission of global content and it consumes large spectrum. Similarly local content are well ...
متن کاملCollaborative Media Streaming Services based on Content Networks
Content networks (CNs) are being introduced to extend content distribution networks (CDNs) with content creation, modification, management, and placement mechanisms to support value-added services and modern applications. This paper presents a CN-based architecture supporting collaborative media streaming services which allow a synchronous group of users to select, watch and control a multimedi...

Correlational studies supporting the link between learners’ multiple intelligences and their learning are superseded by interventionist attempts to explore direct applications of Multiple Intelligence (MI) Theory in language teaching and learning. This quasi-experimental study examined the extent to which engaging ELT major university students in writing tasks, compatible to their dominant inte...
متن کاملAn efficient solution for management of pre-distribution in wireless sensor networks
A sensor node is composed of different parts including processing units, sensor, transmitter, receiver, and security unit. There are many nodes in a sensor unit. These networks can be used for military, industrial, medicine, environmental, house, and many other applications. These nodes may be established in the lands of enemies to monitor the relations. Hence, it is important to consider conse...
